SPCA WWW 2008

They wiggled and they waggled – countless dogs of every shape and size moved past the PAT water point at varying speeds, depending on who was walking whom!  Many miniature mutts were seen hitching a ride in the burly arms of their devoted owners, or diving into the ice cream water bowls at Nr 8!

The 2008 SPCA Wiggle-Waggle-Walkathon had the crowds turning up before dawn to register and warm up for this year’s event, proudly sponsored by CapeTalk 567 and Pet Alive! It was a record fundraising event with more than R100, 000 raised for those animals in distress that receive the care and attention of all the dedicated staff at the Good Hope SPCA.

Along with this year’s PAT volunteer team, (thanks again to Anton, Andrea, Mandy, Rene, Liz, Kathleen, Kathy, Irene, Alison and Eileen) more than 140 additional volunteers added to the walk-a-thon’s success.

In the words of Juan August, Fund Raiser Extraordinaire  at the SPCA:

“The SPCA Wiggle Waggle Walk-a-thon is one of the main fundraising and public relations events for the Cape of Good Hope SPCA. It is a hugely popular walk for dogs and their owners that creates a high public profile and raises much needed funds for the SPCA.  It is also one of the largest canine fun events held annually in Cape Town.

I would like to say a huge thank you to you and the PAT volunteers for giving up your time to assist at water point 8. I appreciate this tremendously. We have received wonderful reviews and thanks to the PAT volunteers we managed to pull it off with much success. Give yourselves a PAT on the back and say “WELL DONE”.

So gear up for the next SPCA event and join in the fun. You participation is guaranteed to make a world of difference to those in the SPCA’s care.
